I think I may have overdone it. I read somewhere that dystopian novels have ambiguous endings—and I love me an ambiguous ending—so I asked some writer buddies for recommendations.
The Handmaid's Tale. Check. Loved it; it's insidious, bleak...
At times painfully slow and on-the-nose, it's still a worthwhile read, but holy cow, with the bleak. And I really could have done without that last line. How about a little show vs. tell?
I still have another recommendation sitting here: The Natural Way of Things (Wood).
First I need to stick my nose in something light. We don't have Pat the Bunny here (damn elitists). Then I saw it: Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (Sedaris).
Ahhhhh...that'll do. Research can wait another couple days. I think Sedaris cures cancer.
